About this mat
What it's made of, how it works, and how to look after it.
A bed and a hiding place in one ring. The ChillPaw™ Donut Cat Tunnel Bed is a dense felt loop your cat can sleep on top of, curl up inside, or bolt through at midnight — with a peekaboo hole cut into the side so they can watch the room without leaving the tunnel.
Why cats actually use it
- Two beds in one shape. The dished top works as an open nest; the tunnel underneath is a dark, enclosed den. Cats pick whichever suits their mood.
- Peekaboo breather hole. A side opening lets light and air into the tunnel and gives them a sightline out — which is the difference between a den a cat uses and one they ignore.
- Dense pressed felt. Holds its shape instead of collapsing, and doubles as a scratching surface, so claws go into the bed rather than your sofa arm.
- Quiet, warm and draught-free. Thick felt walls muffle household noise and hold body heat — good for nervous cats and cold British hallways.
- Looks like furniture. Neutral heathered greys that sit in a living room without shouting "pet product".
For hiders, sprinters and sofa-scratchers
Cats that bolt under the bed when the doorbell goes need somewhere enclosed at floor level they can reach fast. Kittens and young cats want something to charge through. A donut tunnel covers both, which is why it tends to get used all day rather than sitting untouched in a corner like a conventional cat bed.
Size guide
| Size | Outer diameter | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 50 cm | 50 cm | Kittens and small to average adult cats |
| 60 cm | 60 cm | Large breeds, chunky cats, or two cats sharing |
If your cat is over about 5 kg, a Maine Coon or Ragdoll, or you have more than one cat, go for 60 cm. The tunnel should feel snug, not tight.
Care
Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air dry. Vacuum the felt with a brush attachment to lift fur. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — felt shrinks and loses its shape.
In the box

Common questions
What's the difference between the plain and Cat Ears versions? The Cat Ears models have a cut-out cat silhouette on the side of the ring instead of a plain breather hole. Same construction, same sizes.
Will my cat use the tunnel or just sit on top? Most do both. If yours only sits on top at first, drop a treat or a familiar blanket inside the tunnel for a few days.
Is the felt safe if they chew it? It's non-toxic pressed polyester felt. It's designed to be scratched; it isn't a chew toy, so supervise a determined chewer.
Does it hold its shape? Yes. The felt is stiff enough to keep the ring open with a cat lying on top of it, and it recovers after being folded for shipping.
Three layers. No gel.
Most cheap cooling mats hide a gel pouch that can split. This one doesn't hide anything.
-
Ice silk surface
A smooth, high-conductivity weave that pulls body heat away the moment they lie down. Cool to the touch before anything is switched on, because there is nothing to switch on.
-
Cotton padding
The soft bit in the middle. It stops the mat feeling like a sheet of lino, so they actually stay on it.
-
Breathable mesh base
An open honeycomb underside that lets trapped heat escape instead of pooling under them. No gel pouch, so there is nothing to split or leak.

Every review of this mat, good and bad.
Why bother with a cooling mat at all?
Dogs and cats shed heat far worse than we do. A cool surface does most of the work for them.
Works on contact
Nothing to charge, freeze or fill. Unroll it and it's already doing its job.
Built for real dogs
Flat-faced and thick-coated breeds struggle most in heat. Six sizes so nobody hangs off the edge.
Goes where they go
Crate, car boot, sofa, caravan. Rolls up and comes with you.
Wipe and forget
A damp cloth. That's the entire maintenance routine.
Carefully Packed
Every order is carefully prepared and quality checked before dispatch.
Straight answers
We tell you what's inside each mat and which one suits your pet, even when that's the cheaper one.
Which size fits your pet?
Between sizes? Size up.
Cooling or heating?
Opposite jobs, same idea: no plug, no faff. Most people end up with one of each.
Breathable and zero-maintenance. Best for pets who sprawl out for hours.
From
A reflective thermal core under plush sherpa. For cold floors and pets who curl up tight.

The questions everyone asks
Does either mat need a fridge, freezer or plug?
No. Both work at room temperature the moment your pet lies down. You can chill the ice silk mat briefly for a colder start, but that's a bonus, not a requirement.
What's actually inside the ice silk mat?
Three layers: a cool-touch ice silk surface, cotton padding in the middle, and a breathable mesh base. No gel, no water, nothing sealed inside that could leak.
What about the self-heating mat, is that safe?
Yes. It has no cable, no battery and no heating element. A reflective thermal layer sends your pet's own body heat back at them, so there is nothing to overheat, short out or chew through.
How do I clean it?
Wipe the ice silk mat down with a damp cloth and mild soap, then air dry flat. The self-heating mat can go in the machine on a cold, gentle cycle.
How fast is delivery?
